My short fiction story, "Stanger, Love" was just published in Issue 15 of the Timberline Review. I live in the Spokane, WA area now (which is, unfortunately, currently largely engulfed in flames) but I grew up on the Oregon coast in a tiny mill town just outside of Newport, OR. Having Stranger, Love recognized by Willamette Writers and published in the Timberline Review felt like a little piece of validation from a place that will always feel like home.
Last weekend I trekked over to the Willamette Writers Conference in Portland, OR and got to read an excerpt of my work along with several of the other contributors. What an experience! I'm so humbled that this piece found a home among so many talented writers and poets.
Stranger, Love was born out of an inkling of an idea about that gnawing, unsettled feeling, the unsteady horror that comes from realizing that the person you're with isn't who you thought they were at all. It can be jarring and make you feel like you're crazy, whether it's for the duration of a fleeting intrusive thought or a lingering obsession. Stranger, Love is a feminist psychological horror piece whose real terror lies in the not knowing, much like real life.
